It rained and rained for the first few days this week, more than I’ve ever seen before in my life. The rain brought colder weather but not nearly as cold as the first week here. Tuesday night I went to a party with Bruno at a disco and had a great time. The party didn’t start till 11pm and I didn’t get back till almost 3. I woke up the next morning (Wednesday) to find it raining hard enough that practice was cancelled! Que suerte! The rain continued all day and the afternoon practice was rained out as well. Thursday we went to the Stadium of the soccer club Olimpia. (see photos) It was nice, but unlike Cerrro Porteno, their trophy room was a shelf in the back closet. We toured the stadium and watched the team practice. After the tour we went to the “Expo.” The Expo is an annual event used to display new products, ideas, and encourage people to buy more stuff. By stuff I mean everything. To get in you need a ticket like a Disney park. They have booths for every company including McDonalds, Burger King; all the major cell phone companies, cattle, rabbits, amusement park rides, CD stores, food courts, tattoos, junk shops. Everything… I bought myself a CD and a couple of little souvenirs to bring home. We spent hours walking though booths, buying, and eating. I took lots of pictures. By 4 o’clock we had seen all we wanted to and went home. Today, Friday, I had a morning practice. I just finished packing for an AFS end-of-stay orientation that is to take place all weekend.
Time is passing quickly and I wish I could stay here longer. I have 50 pages left in Jane Eyre and am not looking forward to going back to school yet.
PS happy birthday calvin!
